11th and 12th Grade: Explore

 

C Squared students participate in wetland sampling project at Nokuse Plantation.

This class is open to any junior or senior who is interested in pursuing a career in science, math, and/or engineering and is currently enrolled as a Collegiate High School student or as a Northwest Florida State College dual enrolled student.

The primary goal at this level is to allow students to explore a variety of activities related to careers in biological science, physical science, math, and engineering.

Learn-by-Doing projects include specially designed activities directed by NWF State College professors and community professionals, such as the following:

Biological Science Activities:

  • Medical/Health Field activities
  • Forensic science (forensic anthropology and simulated blood analysis)
  • Ecological fieldwork at Nokuse Plantation in Walton County
  • Mapping invasive plant species as part of the South Walton County Coastal Dune Lakes community project
  • Analysis of bacteria in local waters with the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance

Physical Science Activities:

  • Meteorology activities with the WeatherBug Program
  • Analysis of the water chemistry of local bodies of water with the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance
  • Using GPS (Global Positioning System) and GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software for mapping purposes
  • Conservation of archaeological artifacts (chemistry)
  • Engineering

  • Regional team robotics competition (electrical and mechanical engineering)
  • Local water run-off management projects (environmental engineering)
  • Learn-by Doing projects are supplemented with guest speakers and fieldtrips.
