Three Collegiate High School Seniors Honored as National Merit Scholars

Three seniors at the Collegiate High School at Northwest Florida State College have been named by the National Merit Scholarship Program as finalists for the prestigious scholarship program. The students were honored by the college's Trustees at a dinner prior to the board's March 16 business meeting. The National Merit finalists will each graduate in May from the college with an Associate of Arts Degree earned simultaneously with their high school diploma. All three hold a perfect 4.0 grade point average on both their college and high school coursework. Each student will transfer as a junior to the university level to pursue additional higher education. National Merit finalists include:
Matthew Harrison of Fort Walton Beach, who has been accepted to the University of Florida and plans to pursue a degree in bio-chemistry for career in medicine or as a bio-medical researcher;
Samantha Horn, Niceville, who is a principle harpist with the area's Youth Orchestra and a recent winner of the regional Concerto Competition, plans on a double major in biology and music and intends to continue a career as harpist and micro-biologist.
Ashley Landuyt, Crestview, who has been accepted to Auburn University and plans to pursue a degree in Nursing.
