BAE Systems & NWF State College High School Math Bowl Winners


NICEVILLE, FL---Teams from 26 northwest Florida high schools competed recently in the 23nd annual Math Bowl at Northwest Florida State College's Niceville campus. More than 200 students participated in the day-long competition which was sponsored by BAE Systems, a local defense contractor, and the college. The Math Bowl featured events in solving mathematics problems on a written test and ciphering matches in which teams are pitted against each other in a race against time to correctly solve various algebra, trigonometry, analytic geometry, plane geometry, calculus and miscellaneous problems.

Competing schools were divided into three divisions, based on school size. Winners by division included:

Category X: Ten schools competed - 1st place Rocky Bayou Christian School; 2nd place McClay School, Tallahassee; 3rd place NWFSC Collegiate High School; 4th place John Paul II Catholic High School; 5th place Blountstown High school; 6th place Bethlehem School.

Individual winners in Category X included: 1st place YuXuan Zhang of Rocky Bayou Christian School; 2nd place was tied with So Hyun Park of MaClay School and Wesley Olson of NWFSC Collegiate High School; 4th place James Kim of Rocky Bayou Christian; 5th place Joseph Lepley of John Paul II High School; 6th place Matt McDorman of Rocky Bayou Christian, 7th place Im Su Ho Im of Rocky Bayou Christian; 8th place Cameron Ridgewell of McClay School; 9th place Harlea Perdue of Blounstown and 10th place Sarah Hooper of NWFSC Collegiate.

Category Y- Seven schools competed - 1st place Pensacola Catholic; 2nd place Choctawhatchee High School, 3rd place - Marianna High School, , 4th place West Florida High School.

Individual winners in Category Y included: 1st place Harry Walker of Pensacola Catholic; 2nd place John Stefancik of Pensacola Catholic; 3rd place Geoffrey Hart of West Florida; 4th place Mary Snyder of Pensacola Catholic; 5th place Ben Piburn of Choctawhatchee High School; 6th place Allen Wang of Gulf Breeze High School; 7th place Hieu Chau of West Florida; 8th place Kenji Dinelli of Gulf Breeze High; 9th place Travis Bontrager of Marianna High School; and 10th place Adriane Guettler of Chipley High School.

Category Z- Nine schools competed - 1st place Rickards High School; 2nd place Chiles High School; 3rd place Lincoln High School; 4th place Fort Walton Beach High School; 5th place Navarre High School.

Individual winners included in category Z included: Pratik Sachdeva of Rickards; Eli Ross of Rickards; Christopher Kim of Rickards, William Dunn of Chiles; Payal Patel of Rickards; Jitesh Kuntawala of Lincoln High; Ziyan Song of Lincoln, Shawn Best of Lincoln; Wayne Zhao of Chiles and Marshall Jiang of Chiles.
