Helpful Tips for Students
GET TO KNOW YOUR INSTRUCTORS
Learn the name of each of your instructors!
BE PROMPT
Arrive at all classes on time.
BE PREPARED
Take paper/notebook, pencil/pen and your textbook to class with you (Some teachers do not require you to have your book in class everyday, but until you know that for sure, you should take your book.) Teachers do not have extra pens and paper in the classrooms you'll need to have your own!
NEED ASSISTANCE?
If you are struggling in a class and/or need assistance with a particular topic, talk with your instructor during his/her office hours, or talk with Ms. Franklin or someone in student services ASAP!
UNSURE OF WHERE TO GO?
When you are unsure of where you need to be, go to the STAR Lab or the Collegiate School Office!
HANDOUTS
Keep all of the course handouts — especially the syllabus/course outline, that is your "contract" with the instructor regarding course requirements.
EXTRA CREDIT
Do not expect any extra credit opportunities — few, if any, college classes will offer the chance for extra credit work.
MAKE-UP EXAMS
Many college instructors do not give make-up exams or assignments; if you know in advance you must miss a class, ALWAYS talk to the instructor about how your absence will affect your grade. If you are ill and miss class, ALWAYS notify the Collegiate School Office and one of the staff will attempt to coordinate with your instructors.
COURSE WITHDRAWAL
If you need to withdraw from a college class, you may do so with permission up to the last week of the term. We will withdraw you from the college class and you will continue in the same or another high school only class. Withdrawal may result in delayed graduation if there is not enough time to make up the credit.
MISSED CLASSES
In a college class, if you miss more than three consecutive day classes or miss a class more than three times in a month, the instructor may withdraw you from the class. (See the College Catalog or the Attendance section of your Collegiate High School Handbook.)
STILL NEED ASSISTANCE?
Please either go to the Collegiate School Office, go to the STAR Lab, or contact a Collegiate School staff member.
